Victorian jewelry – A valuable piece of art

Victorian jewelry is a fine example of master craftsmanship. This jewelry is beautiful, delicate, valuable and cherished by all. The Victorian era was a time of epic romance, great tragedies and unprecedented prosperity. Thus, the jewelry of this era reflects all these changes and is divided into three periods – the Romantic, the Grand and the Late Victorian.

The jewelry of the romantic period was made by using gold to create large, puffy jewelry that was light in weight. Hair jewelry was the most important piece of jewelry at that time. The grand period was the mourning period so the jewelry of this time was dark and of somber tone. Antique necklaces, sentimental lockets, intricate monogram and name brooches made of silver were popular during this age. The late Victorian age brought an element of light heartedness to the jewelry. Diamond studded creatures, antique pendants made up of diamond; glittering star brooches are some of the examples of the jewelry made during the late Victorian jewelry.
