The Elegance Of Antique Brooches

There is a thriving market in historical brooches. There are brooches from the Viking era, Egyptian ones, African, Russian, Pre-Columbian and Chinese brooches. You could buy historical brooches like the antique diamond star shaped brooch from 1820 or the 1870 Victorian gold brooch with seed pearls and turquoise. There is the beautiful 1880 silver brooch with garnet from the Victorian period and the antique 1890 embossed metal and green rhinestones brooch..

Artistic copies of antique brooches are also available. You could buy a Brancusi brooch in sterling silver from 1917. Named after the creator, a poor Rumanian peasant, the brooch is patterned after his abstract sculptures of the human form. You could buy a lizard brooch, signifying divinity in nature, in gilded sterling silver from the Pre-Columbian Quimbaya period, between 600-1600 or the 1921 German Marcks Cat Brooch in enameled and plated metal body.
